BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Purple and gold fans are getting ready for Saturday's home opener in Death Valley, but many are getting together on Friday to support the assistant cheerleading coach.

Chico Garcia was injured last month in a boating accident.

A blood drive in underway from noon until 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Tiger Stadium.

Shaquille O'Neal stopped by Garcia's hospital room Thursday to give some encouraging words.

Reportedly, Our Lady of the Lake will also be crediting $15 towards Garcia's account for each donation made.

Garcia remains temporarily paralyzed from the neck down.
