BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Media members were allowed to watch five periods, or 28 minutes, of LSU's first football practice for veterans.

Head coach Les Miles spent most of that time with the offense, watching QBs Jordan Jefferson and Jarret Lee.

Jefferson looked sharp and so did RB Spencer Ware.

Freshman Odell Beckham, Jr. looked primed to challenge for a starting spot at WR, but Russell Shepard and Rueben Randle occupied those spots Thursday morning, along with TE Deangelo Peterson.

Chase Clement and QB Zach Mettenberger were not at the morning workout, but are expected in the afternoon with the freshmen and selected veterans.

While OT Josh Williford was excused from practice due to two recent deaths in his family, Alex Hurst and Chris Faulk worked with other first team linemen T-Bob Hebert and Will Blackwell at guard and center PJ Lonergan.

Look for video of the first practice online later and a full report on 9News at 6 and 10 p.m.
