MIAMI, FL - The National Hurricane Center said showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave over the Caribbean Sea have become better organized over the past few hours.
The disturbance is located just to the south of the western tip of Cuba.
Forecasters reported surface observations suggest a circulation could be forming about 125 miles east of Cancun, Mexico.
They added if those trends continue, a tropical depression could develop later Wednesday.
The system is moving west-northwestward near 15 mph and has a high chance, 70 percent, of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.
So far, all forecast models puts the weather mass headed toward Mexico or Texas.
