LSU Women's track & field team #1, Men #2

BATON ROUGE – With the start of the championship season now on the horizon for members of the LSU track and field program, the Lady Tigers are ranked No. 1 and the Tigers are ranked No. 2 nationally as they prepare for the 2011 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held next weekend.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers held their position in the latest Top 25 power ranking released on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, following a tremendous weekend in their regular season finale at the 117th Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

LSU is certainly in a position to compete for a pair of team titles next weekend at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Georgia's Spec Town Track from May 12-15.

The rest of the nation's top five remained unchanged in this week's women's power rankings, as the Lady Tigers are followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Southern California.

The Tigers continue to trail No. 1 Texas A&M in the men's power ranking, while No. 3 Florida and No. 4 Florida State have switched spots and No. 5 Texas Tech has held its position in the latest men's ranking.

After competing at the SEC Championships next weekend, the Tigers and Lady Tigers will then turn their attention to the NCAA Championships as the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds will be held on May 26-28 at E.C. Billy Hayes Track in Bloomington, Ind. The semifinal and final rounds of the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will follow June 8-11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
