LA govt. employee accused of having sex with a minor
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Louisiana government employee was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly having sex with a minor.
According to Louisiana State Police, Christopher Johnson, 37, had a sexual relationship with a girl in her mid-teens for almost two years. Johnson worked in the Disaster Recovery Unit of the Division of Administration for the state.
Authorities said they received information about what Johnson was allegedly doing and began an investigation. They added that's when they learned about the alleged sexual relationship between Johnson and the girl. Johnson was arrested at his office shortly after 3 p.m.
Troopers reported he received videos of the girl on his state-licensed computer. In addition to his workplace, troopers searched Johnson's home and vehicle. They seized two laptop computers, five wireless phones and various data storage devices.
"The actions alleged in this case are deeply disturbing and constitute the worst kind of predatory behavior that this administration is determined to eradicate across the state," said Angele Davis, commissioner of administration. "Effective immediately, Johnson's employment in state government is terminated."
"This is an example of why law enforcement must stay focused on the mission of identifying, investigating and arresting individuals who prey on our children," said Col. Mike Edmonson, Supt. of Louisiana State Police. "Whether it is solicitation, molestation or involvement in child pornography, we will find you and put you in jail. We have made great strides with the support of the governor, the legislature and our law enforcement partners, but we know there is a great deal more to do and we remain committed."
Johnson faces a number of charges, including carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
