MORGANZA, LA (WAFB) - A six-year-old boy was hit by a car and killed after getting off the school bus Monday evening in Morganza. The driver was arrested for negligent homicide.

According to Louisiana State Police, Monte Stevens, 6, died just after 6 p.m. near his home on LA 1 north of LA 420 in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Troopers said he was crossing the street just as a car driven by Gloria Green, 61, of Morganza came from the opposite direction.

They said Green didn't stop, ignoring the lights and stop signs on the bus. Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene.

Green was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and failure to obey traffic signals (school bus signals). Troopers said she had not been drinking at the time. She was booked into the Pointe Coupee Parish jail.
