Mayor LaToya Cantrell in partnership with the New Orleans Saints have agreed to a phased and deliberate pilot approach allowing fans to attend Saints games in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, beginning with this weekend’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency for Louisiana in anticipation of Hurricane Delta, which is forecast to make landfall in the southern part of the state either late Friday, Oct. 9 or Saturday, Oct. 10.
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome issued a statement Wednesday evening after the Baton Rouge Metro Council did not have enough council members vote “yes” to approve a measure that would have allowed bars in East Baton Rouge Parish to reopen.
Only seven of the twelve Metro Council members attended a special virtual meeting Wednesday, Sept. 30 that was intended to vote on whether or not bars in East Baton Rouge Parish could open after the parish met state Phase 3 requirements Wednesday.
Data from a NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft investigating Sally indicate the system has rapidly strengthened to a hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of around 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. The estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches).
At 1 p.m. the center of Tropical Storm Sally was located near latitude 27.7 North, longitude 85.5 West. Sally is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and a west-northwestward or northwestward motion is expected through Monday.
