Heat remains, but a little relief arrives later this week
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - There is no sign of summer loosening its grip anytime soon, but a drop in humidity later this week will at least provide some modest relief.
TUESDAY OUTLOOK
It will be another muggy and dry morning start on Tuesday, with lows ranging from the low to mid 70s. And plenty of heat returns for the afternoon, with highs in the mid 90s, and heat index values that could top 105 degrees in some areas.
Tuesday’s rain chances are posted at 30%, with the best opportunity for getting a cooling shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon. Any rain that develops should quickly fade into the evening.
A LITTLE RELIEF AHEAD
While we don’t see any cool fronts headed our way anytime soon, a noticeable drop in humidity is expected by Thursday.
Drier air filtering in from the east should give us at least some modest relief in humidity from Thursday into the first part of Saturday. But temperatures will remain hot, topping out in the low to mid 90s.
FOOTBALL FORECASTS
It will be hot in both Baton Rouge and Oxford on Saturday, with the Jags at home and the Tigers on the road taking on Ole Miss. Locally, highs will top out in the low to mid 90s for tailgating on the Southern campus, with readings falling into the 80s by kickoff. Only a slight chance of showers is currently expected.
Daytime temperatures in Oxford may even be a few degrees higher on Saturday afternoon, and warm weather lingers into the evening. The good news is that rain should not be an issue.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
There’s no sign of any significant heat relief anytime soon, with highs ranging from the low to mid 90s for the foreseeable future. But we will at least get a brief break in the humidity late this week. However, moisture levels quickly rebound this weekend, allowing a few afternoon storms to return.
