BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Officials with the Louisiana Supreme Court want to warn the public about scam text messages going out to residents.

According to court officials, the text messages claim someone has an outstanding traffic ticket and must pay a fine or face a possible punishment. The messages claim to come from the “Louisiana Superior Court,” a court that does not actually exist in the state.

Officials with the Louisiana Supreme Court said they will never send text messages or emails that threaten someone with prosecution for traffic or fee violations.

Anyone with questions about the scam text messages can contact the Louisiana Supreme Court Clerk of Court’s Office by calling the number (504) 310-2300.
