Final preparations underway ahead of winter storm
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - You wouldn’t be able to tell it’s a Monday by looking at the Costco parking lot. It’s filled with people like Mary and Gary Lamy stocking up on last minute supplies before the winter weather makes its way to south Louisiana.
“I’ve been talking to my daughter in Pennsylvania, they’re getting quite a bit of snow, and I said well it’s the talk of the town around here,” said Lamy. “I think everything’s going to shut down.”
Since he used to live in Kansas City, Lamy knows exactly what he needed to do ahead of time.
“We made sure we had covers for all our outdoor faucets and then we’ve got a well outside so made sure we had a lightbulb to keep the well house warm,” explained Lamy.
He’s not the only one preparing early though. General manager Craig Ruh said he’s been busy helping people all weekend get what they need at his Ace Hardware off Millerville Road. His most requested items are faucet covers.
“Everybody wants a faucet cover, and we held in pretty good, but ran out Sunday,” said Ruh.
He said they are also out of firewood, but they do still have insulation and portable heaters on the shelves. Ruh has even gotten a few unusual requests too.
“I’ve had a ton of calls for rock salt and that’s something we don’t even stock down here, but everyone’s looking for it all of a sudden,” said Ruh.
Not Aubrey Shoptaugh. She said she’s really excited for the snow. As her family is focused on hunkering down at home, she’s focused on making her snow day count.
“Definitely a snowball fight and some snow angels and a snowman and also we bought smores stuff so we’re going to make that,” explained Shoptaugh.
