Louisiana names being considered for Trump’s cabinet
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - President-Elect Donald Trump is wasting no time filling his cabinet for his second term in Washington, and Political Analyst Jim Engster told the Baton Rouge Rotary Club that a few Louisiana faces could make the cut.
Multiple political reports claim Congressman Garret Graves is on a shortlist to head up the U.S. Department of Transportation. Graves’ Chief of Staff told WAFB he’s “been working with and advising the Trump campaign most of this year on transportation and infrastructure policy.”
Governor Jeff Landry was also reportedly a top contender for Attorney General, but Trump selected Florida Representative Matt Gaetz for the position instead. Engster said Landry is not the only Louisiana Governor being mentioned to fill a cabinet seat.
“He has visited him in Mar-a-Lago at least three times in the last year and he’s said a lot of bad things about Trump when he was running against him in 2016 but he’s doing his best to mend fences and I would think he’s a possibility as well,” explained Engster.
He’s talking about former Governor Bobby Jindal whose name is floating around for Health and Human Services Secretary. As for the Education Secretary, State Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley’s name has been tossed around. Even though Engster believes he has the right backing, he’s not sure his popularity status will make the cut for Trump.
“Brumley is well known in Louisiana, and he has developed a following in conservative circles for going against the tide on some of the things people thought he would do otherwise, but whether he would be a big enough national figure, I don’t know,” said Engster.
Regardless of who Trump names for his remaining seats, Engster believes he will have his cabinet filled by Christmas.
