BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - On Saturday, Corporal Jason Lee with the Baton Rouge Police Department, helped deliver a baby on the side of Greenwell Springs Rd.

Lee says he was flagged down and asked to escort a woman in labor to the hospital. Before they made it there they waved him down and motioned for him to pull over. Cpl. Lee says he opened the door and the baby was coming.

“I didn’t know what to do at that time. We pulled over to the store and kind of assessed the situation and learned from actually being around medical people and what I learned from the Baton Rouge Police Department and tried to assist the best way I could,” said Lee.

The baby was safely delivered by Lee and the mother says she is grateful he was there.

“It was a lot of emotions. I was trying to get it over with. I wanted some help. I was really trying to get it over with, but I was tired. It was very hot. Nothing was working. I was getting very upset,” added Destiny Allen, the mother.

Cpl. Lee says they both handled the situation the best they could.

“I give her a lot of props. She was brave to go through this situation and I know she didn’t think it was going to go this way with a car and especially not with a police officer and she handled it well with the pain, the sun… it made me feel more comfortable too, by her not panicking.”

Lee has kept in touch with the mother and son and says they are forever bonded.

“I contacted her mother and say hey you know it’s ok if I call your daughter and check up on her and check on her and her son and stuff like that. You know I know it was a trial situation that she went through, so you know at least see how they are doing,” said Lee.
