Police identify man found dead in Comite River

Deputies are investigating after a man was found dead in the Comite River on Saturday morning, Feb. 3.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A man that was found dead in the Comite River on Saturday morning, Feb. 3, has been identified.

The man was also identified as a suspect in a deadly hit and run crash on Thursday, Jan. 25, officials said.

Humberto Vasquez, 38, has been identified as the body found in the river, Louisiana State Police confirmed.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said a visitor at the Comite River Park on Hooper Road noticed the body in the water shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday and alerted deputies.

The EBRSO maritime team recovered the body. Deputies are still investigating the death of Vasquez. Officials said there are no signs of foul play.
