Woman arrested following house fire that killed 2 people in St. Mary Parish

Two people were killed and a third person was injured as a result of a house fire Saturday morning, Aug. 5, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

ST. MARY PARISH, La. (WAFB) - A woman has been arrested following a house fire in Bayou Vista that left two people dead and a third person injured, according to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Authorities said Haley Ramo, 22, of Morgan City, is charged with negligent arson and negligent homicide.

The fire burned at a home on Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista on Saturday, August 5, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

After the flames were extinguished, two people were found dead inside the home, officials said. They added a third victim was outside and was taken to a hospital to get treated.

According to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, the two people who died are believed to be a 28-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman. Investigators said at least two pets were also killed.

Following an investigation into the deadly fire, authorities learned the flames began in the living room area of the home.

Authorities said they were not able to locate any working smoke alarms in the home.
