69-year-old victim identified in deadly Baton Rouge shooting

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 7.

Police identified the victim as Eishmel Spears, Jr., 69.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 9900 block of Merganzer Avenue near Mills Avenue and Scenic Highway, according to authorities.

Spears was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries he sustained from being shot.

The motive and suspect(s) are unknown at this time.

Emergency officials confirmed the shooting happened in the 9900 block of Merganzer Avenue near Mills Avenue and Scenic Highway.
