Where to get free meals for kids, teens this summer

There are several summer meal giveaways and feeding programs underway right now in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, making sure no child will go hungry.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - There are several summer meal giveaways and feeding programs underway right now in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, making sure no child will go hungry.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Library announced kids and teenagers can eat free meals at nine library locations during the summer months.

The meals are provided by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s Child Nutrition Program.

Kids and teens will be available to eat, free of charge, until Friday, July 28.

Councilman Darryl Hurst and the Charles R. Kelly Community Center announced the District 5 kids’ summer feeding program began on Monday, June 5.

Youth up to the age of 18 years old are welcome to enjoy breakfast and lunch daily, Monday through Friday.

The program will remain in place through the end of the month.

Breakfast will be provided from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served ready starting at 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the community center.

West Baton Rouge Schools announced it will distribute free seven-day meal boxes every Friday in June between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Port Allen High School. The school is located at 3553 Rosedale Road in Port Allen.

Officials said you do not have to live in West Baton Rouge Parish to participate.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge’s Child Nutrition Program will be providing free summer meals for free to all children 18 and younger. Each child will receive 7 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 1 gallon of milk. Click here to view the schedule.

Kids can eat for free this summer.

IDEA Public Schools will feed kids aged 18 and younger breakfast and lunch at three of its locations through Friday, July 21. Click here for a list of locations. Kids can eat for free whether they are an IDEA student or not.
