First day of Hurricane Season, and already tracking the Gulf
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Today is the official start of the 2023 hurricane season, and we’re already monitoring the Gulf for an area of low pressure that has a 70% (high) chance of tropical development.

Most models take this possible tropical storm south, but there are a few north-going outliers. This low could bring big rains to Florida, but the storm does not threaten Louisiana.
If it gets a name, it will be the first named storm of the year, named Arlene, but technically not the first storm, as we had one unnamed storm back in January.
“Tropical Depression #2 has formed in the Gulf on the first day of hurricane season and is expected to become Tropical Storm Arlene. The storm will move south and is not a threat to Louisiana. There are currently no watches or warnings anywhere on the Gulf coast.”

Locally, the weather is a typical summertime pattern with small chances of rain, mainly each afternoon.

Highs will be hot, especially this weekend with highs possibly reaching the mid-90s!
