BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The popular Tigerland bar, Reggie’s, will now permanently close its doors, at least under the current ownership. The owner had his license to sell alcohol revoked Thursday morning, April 27.

“This is one of the upper ends of our authority as an agency,” said ATC Commissioner Ernest Legier.

He said the Alcohol and Tobacco Control Board and the owner of Reggie’s reached the agreement Thursday. The bar’s license was suspended in January after the death of LSU student Madison Brooks and accusations of underage drinking there.

“This business failed, and it led to tragic circumstances,” added Legier.

Brooks was allegedly raped after leaving Reggie’s. She was then hit by a car and later died at a hospital. According to arrest records, multiple underage people at the center of a rape investigation were reportedly served alcohol at the bar that night.

“The acceptance of a license is a privilege, not a right. You accept responsibility of public safety,” continued Legier.

The bar’s owner, Darin Adams, was ordered to pay a $15,000 fine. He agreed to never own or manage an alcohol establishment in Louisiana ever again.

Kerry Miller, the attorney for the family of Madison Brooks, said the family is pleased with the ruling and added he hopes this ruling can stop something like this from ever happening again.

“This has to be part of the state’s past where bar owners can turn a blind eye to underage drinking,” said Miller. “It has to end.”

He believes work going on right now at the Louisiana State Capitol will help even more.

“There is a bill in the legislature that this family will back. It will outlaw those under 21 from entering bars,” added Miller.
