Shooting near LSU campus leaves student injured

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The LSU Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a student injured near a university apartment complex on Sunday, April 23.

It happened on Nicholson Drive near West Chimes Street.

One sophomore, who didn’t want to give his name, was close by when the shots rang out.

“I did hear it,” said the student. “We got the email right after.”

The following message was sent out by LSU’s alert system at 8:20 p.m.:

“LSUPD on scene of reported shots fired near Nicholson Drive and West Chimes Street. Suspects are no longer on scene. Avoid the area.”

One LSU student, who sustained injuries not considered life-threatening, was taken to the hospital by a personal vehicle, treated, and released. There are no other injuries known at this time.

“We don’t usually get it around here. Usually, it is on the other side of campus,” added the sophomore student.

“Student safety is our top priority, so please know that LSU PD is working around the clock to solve this case,” read in part a statement from LSU.

“There is pretty good security. Cops are driving around,” explained the student.
