Self-defense training available for Southern, BRCC, LSU undergrads
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Crime can happen anywhere and at any time, and it’s important to know how to protect yourself and your loved ones.
The Mu Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. held an Equalizer Training at LSU where officers taught participants self-defense moves and different safety maneuvers.
“We give them all the knowledge they need, and all the education with the class so they can go out in the world and be better prepared themselves if they ever come across a dangerous situation,” Bass said.
Undergrads from LSU, BRCC and Southern were invited to join.
Leaders believe the skills taught during the class could potentially save someone’s life one day.
“In order to get them to think about these sorts of things, you got to give them that experience and tell them this is what you need to do,” Cynthia Jones said.
“Everybody leaves and they have more confidence than when they first came into the room,” Bass said. “Our hope is that when we teach these participants, that they can use it and it becomes muscle memory.”
Leaders plan to hold another training session in the near future.
