Woman arrested after shooting boyfriend at Baton Rouge hotel Monday, police say

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A woman has been arrested in connection to a shooting at a hotel in Baton Rouge that happened Monday, Jan. 17.

According to officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shooting occurred at the OYO Hotel near I-12.

Mykayla Haynes is facing charges that include attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, according to arrest records from BRPD.

Sgt. Don Coppola Jr., spokesperson for BRPD, said police responded around 11 a.m. Monday to 9999 Gwenadale Ave. where a man had suffered apparent gunshot injuries.

Police were told a man was shot in the shoulder by his girlfriend.

Authorities report the couple got into an argument while staying at the hotel together.

Haynes reportedly fired several shots at the man, grazing him on the shoulder.

Injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening at the time of the incident, according to police.

After reviewing cellphone and surveillance video, Haynes was arrested, according to authorities.
