Mary Elizabeth Norckauer, founder of LSU Golden Girls, passes away

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Mary Elizabeth Briggs Norckauer, the founder of the LSU Golden Girls, has passed away. The LSU Tiger Marching Band announced on Wednesday, April 7 that she passed away on Tuesday, April 6. She was 96 years old.

For more than 30 years, she taught everything from dance to skating to shooting to fencing at LSU. Mary was a life-long athlete, earning the title of Internationally Distinguished Shooter as a member of the U.S. Shooting Team and setting track and field world records in running, jumping and throwing events. Her work helped build a legacy of excellence in Tiger Band and beyond, and she will be greatly missed.
