SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The City of Shreveport is excited to announce it’s hosting one of the most anticipated matchups in college football, the Bayou Classic.
Grambling State University and Southern University will face off on Saturday, April 17. This is the first time in decades that the schools have faced off in Shreveport.
Starting on Thursday, April 15, Shreveport will host Port City Fest. Fans can attend to experience the food, fun and activities that will showcase the rich culture of Shreveport and the heritage of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The weekend will kick off with the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce will host the Classic Expo at the Shreveport Convention Center from Thursday until Saturday. The Classic Expo will highlight local businesses and feature panel discussions.
The Mayor’s Golf Invitational Tournament will be held on Friday, April 16 at Querbes Park Golf Course. It will provide scholarships to students attending Grambling State University and Southern University.
Party on the Red at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport will have food, vendors and musical performances on Friday and Saturday, April 16-17. A complete list of events can be found on the Port City Fest website.
At Port City Fest, masks and social distancing will be enforced by COVID crowd managers, and temperatures will be checked before individuals enter Festival Plaza.
There will be a limited number of tickets available on the Port City Fest website. All tickets will be electronic.
Mayor Adrian Perkins says the game will be a win for the fans, local economy and local tourism.
Shreveport Green will be holding a clean-up event ahead of the game on Saturday, April 10.
