New Orleans honors the lives of nearly 700 residents lost due to COVID-19

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans officials Tuesday honored and remembered the lives of nearly 700 people lost due to Coronavirus.

The ceremony was held at 4:30 p.m. n Jan. 19. The city encouraged people to leave tokens to remember their loved ones at the gate and steps.

The city plans to continue honoring the lives lost to the virus in a permanent memorial.

Mayor Cantrell says people of the city should grieve the lives lost while also engaging in the work to prevent more loss by keeping up safety mitigation efforts.
