Pointer leads LSU to close 66-64 win over Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (WAFB) - The LSU women’s basketball team nearly squandered a comfortable double-digit lead in the fourth quarter against Missouri but was able to make enough free throws down the stretch to hold on for the road win on Monday, Jan. 18.

The Lady Tigers (6-6, 4-2 SEC) edged Missouri 5-4, 1-3 SEC), 66-64. LSU led by 16 points with 8:41 remaining in the game and Missouri was able to pull within a point three different times in the final 3:00 of the contest.

Khayla Pointer led the way for LSU with 22 points. She also had three rebounds and three assists. Tiara Young added 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Faustine Aifuwa chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.

Aijha Blackwell had a double-double for Missouri with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams shot 48% from the field, had 28 rebounds, and committed 20 turnovers. LSU held the edge on 3-pointers, 57%-29%. Missouri was better from the charity stripe, 76%-62%, but LSU had more attempts.

LSU will return home to host No. 4 South Carolina in the PMAC on Sunday, Jan. 24, at noon.
