BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Rêve Coffee Shop and many other small businesses are a target for scammers pretending to offer coronavirus aid.
“A lot of the things I care about are in here and I think the customers are seeing that. We put a lot of focus into making sure that we’re not skimping out on any details, we’re not cutting any corners and we’re putting coffee and customers at the forefront of everything that we do”, said Cale Guidry, the general manager of the coffee shop.
Scammers are hacking the personal accounts of people close to the business owners, such as bookkeepers.
“You know in the past it’s targeted consumers but now they’re actually targeting businesses and they’re reaching out to them through email, fax, and other ways telling them that there is money out there that they can get and of course they can get it immediately”, said Carmen Million who works for the Better Business Bureau.
