JACKSON, Miss. (WAFB) - The Southern women’s basketball team struggled in its shooting in a loss at Jackson State on Monday, Jan. 11.
The Lady Jags (1-8, 1-2 SWAC) fell 62-42 to the Lady Tigers (4-5, 3-1 SWAC).
Nakia Kincey led Southern with 14 points. She was the only Lady Jaguar to score in double figures. Southern trailed the entire game.
“Tonight we could not hit shots during the first three quarters,” said head coach Carlos Funchess. “We did a pretty good job moving the basketball and got some open looks but couldn’t get anything to fall. Our kids kept battling and we forced a few turnovers that led to some easy buckets. I told the team that we have to keep working hard defensively and that eventually some shots would fall for us. We have two games at home this weekend and we need to take care of business.”
Dayzsha Rogan led Jackson State with 17 points. She also had nine rebounds. Ameshya Williams added a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Southern shot only 21.9% from the field, while Jackson State hit 46.8% of its shots. The Lady Jags were outrebounded 45-19.
