Southern picks up first win with 61-55 victory over Grambling

GRAMBLING, La. (WAFB) - The Southern men’s basketball team picked up its first win of the season after not playing a game in nearly a month.

The Jags (1-4, 1-0 SWAC) picked up the 61-55 win over Grambling (3-6, 1-1 SWAC) on the road.

Terrell Williams led Southern with 18 points. He was 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the field and 3-of-3 (100%) on 3-pointers. He was also 3-of-5 (60%) from the free throw line. Harrison Henderson had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Trevell Cunningham led Grambling with 18 points.

Southern shot 42.9% from the field and 44.4% on 3-pointers while Grambling was 33.9% and only 17.6% in those same categories.

The Jags won’t hit the court again until Saturday, Jan. 16, by hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff because Monday’s game at Jackson State has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the JSU program.
