GRAMBLING, La. (WAFB) - The Southern women’s basketball team fought to the end but dropped a close one to Grambling on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The Lady Jaguars (1-7, 1-1 SWAC) fell 67-64 to the Lady Tigers (2-3, 1-0 SWAC).
Amani McWain recorded a double-double for Southern with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She was 7-of-11 from the field and 1-of-2 on 3-pointers. Caitlin Davis added 12 points. Raven White and Taneara Moore each chipped in 10 points.
Candice Parramore led Grambling with 17 points.
Southern shot 40% from the field and 28.6% on 3-pointers while Grambling hit 47.1% of its shots and 27.8% from beyond the arc.
Southern was better on points off turnovers (21-15) and second-chance points (13-8). Grambling dominated on bench points (20-7), points in the paint (38-22), and fast break points (20-12).

Southern will stay on the road and travel to Jackson, Miss. to face Jackson State on Monday, Jan. 11.
