FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Friday, Jan. 8 - Chilly weather remains in place, highs struggle to reach the 50’s

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Chilly weather remains in place today as highs struggle to reach 50 degrees in many neighborhoods. Mainly overcast skies will persist through the morning, but we’re hopeful for some breaks in the clouds by mid to late afternoon.

Heading into the weekend, temperatures will remain well below normal. Light freezes are possible on both Saturday and Sunday mornings, with highs on both days only reaching the low 50s. Sunshine prevails on Saturday, with clouds returning during the day on Sunday.

Our focus then shifts to rain returning by late Sunday night. And the big question – will the rain mix with any snow locally? Right now, it still looks like best chances will be a bit north of metro Baton Rouge, but it’s a close enough call that we can’t rule it out just yet. Otherwise, look for the chilly rain to continue into the first half of Monday before things start to dry out Monday afternoon.

Cooler-than-normal weather will continue through at least Wednesday of next week, with only a slight moderation in temperatures by week’s end.
