BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Medical leaders of CareSouth in Baton Rouge say their phones have been ringing nonstop.

Marketing and Communications Director, Michelle McCalope says they cater to an underserved, vulnerable population and their patients are eagerly awaiting the chance to roll up their sleeves for the vaccine.

So far the clinic has received more than 500 calls requesting more details about the vaccine or to make an appointment. McCalope says currently more than 200 people are on a waiting list.

Despite the overwhelming response, community members are encouraged to call to make an appointment at 225-650-2000.

Leaders of CareSouth say they are vaccinating several dozen individuals a day with no out of pocket expense.

McCalope says if a patient doesn’t have insurance, the clinic will cover the cost of the vaccine.

CareSouth will be getting additional doses next Tuesday.
