GONZALES, La. (WAFB) - Deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office say they have arrested a man accused of shooting his father.
Investigators say they responded to a report of a person shot on Thurston McCrory Road in the Gonzales area around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Deputies say they arrived at the scene and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities say they learned Jonathan Landry, 22, of Gonzales, got into a fight with his father after his father accused him of stealing guns from a compartment in the home.
When Landry’s father attempted to confront him, Landry shot his father and shot the family dog in the process, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies say Landry was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and cruelty to animals and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office says the dog is expected to recover from its injuries.
