Many frustrated with how fast COVID-19 vaccine appointments fill up
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Frustrated, confused, and impatient, those are words that describe many of you right here in our area who were trying to get the vaccine today.
Almost every pharmacy in the area that had it ran out of those doses or appointments to get a dose, within the first hour of opening.
“It’s been a crazy day, our phone has been ringing off the hook, in fact, we had so many phone calls come in today that it shut down our phone system for a while. But we’re back up and running and we’ve gotten over 100 phone calls from people that are interested in getting the vaccine”, said Michelle McCalope the Communications Director at CareSouth Medical and Dental in Baton Rouge.
The Department of Health put out a statement today stating that, “we are so encouraged by the high demand for the COVID vaccine. We do anticipate receiving more vaccines in the coming weeks and months that will allow us to make them increasingly available for the public.
“We’ll be getting 100 doses of the Moderna vaccine tomorrow and we will start vaccinating the public Wednesday afternoon”, said McCalope.
Similar to most of the pharmacies in our area, CareSouth Medical and Dental wants you to reach out to them and follow a couple of key steps. this will make sure you end up on the list.
“We’re encouraging people to call us first to get on the list. we’re developing a list of everyone who wants the vaccine and we’re calling that list in the order that the calls were received--for the people who meet the criteria”, said McCalope.
Some of the other pharmacies want you to go online to schedule your appointment. And every one of them wants to make sure you don’t make one key mistake.
“We want to make sure people don’t show up, don’t just show because if you do you won’t be served”, said McCalope.
