Man returns home after being hospitalized with coronavirus, looks ahead to 2021

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - When the clock hit midnight and 2020 was no more, it marked the end of a year that challenged many, especially a COVID survivor who almost didn’t make it.

The virus nearly killed Nolan Valenti twice. He spent months in the ICU on a ventilator but finally made it back home just a couple weeks ago.

It has been a long road to recovery for Valenti, one which is by no means complete, but the journey has left him with a new outlook on life.

“Taking things for granted, the things I used to take for granted, that doesn’t happen now. Just things like I’ve always done like coaching baseball, I can’t wait to get back to doing that stuff,” Valenti said. “I can’t wait to get back to work with the guys and everything. Just being more independent.”

Valenti is getting married at the end of January and he said he should be returning to work in the coming weeks. All ensuring this year is already better than the last.

“Last night when the clock was hitting 12 it got pretty overwhelming just thinking about everything that I went through and what’s to come, and it’s the total opposite,” he said.
