Spanish Town parade canceled for 2021 Carnival season

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Krewe of Spanish Town has canceled its parade for the 2021 Carnival Season, organizers announced Tuesday, Dec. 29.

The parade was originally scheduled to roll Feb. 13, 2021 but has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers announced Nov. 18 that they were canceling the Spanish Town Ball originally scheduled for Jan. 30, 2021 for the same reason.

The krewe tells WAFB they hope to reschedule for late Spring or Summer 2021, depending on Baton Rouge city-parish/government regulations.

“Mardi Gras will always be interwoven into the fabric of our community and we are certainly open to rescheduling the parade at a later date when it is deemed safe to do so,” said Mark Armstrong, chief communications officer for the mayor. “Brighter days are on the horizon for Baton Rouge with the advent of the COVID-19 vaccine. We appreciate and understand the difficult choices parade & festival organizers have had to make during this pandemic.”
