BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - LSU held its weekly virtual press briefing to discuss the university’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m.

The briefing began with a presentation by LSU Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering Professor John Pardue about a wastewater study that’s being conducted on campus.

Interim LSU President Tom Galligan answered questions from the media. Those questions largely focused on the plan for football.

“It’s complex,” Galligan said. “It’s not just about capacity.”

He said to expect an announcement “very soon.”

Some key data was also provided. Galligan confirmed that since the first day of classes, there have been a total of 4,442 self-reported tests on campus. As of Wednesday, 77 people are in isolation and 180 people are in quarantine.

Galligan hopes to increase testing on campus and plans to provide incentives for getting tested, which could include the ability for students to attend football games.
