UPDATE: Water service restored to Grand Isle after vessel severs water line
NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) - Water service has been restored to Grand Isle. The severed water main between the town of Jean Lafitte and Grand Isle was successfully fused, pressure tested and activated shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
A boil water notice will not be required because of the efforts of the Jefferson Parish Water Department to manage the system pressure, the addition of water to the system by barge and tanker truck and the assistance of the residents in Grand Isle to conserve water.
Officials in Jefferson Parish say a vessel hit and severed the water line between Lafitte and Grand Isle Thursday.
The Jefferson Parish Water Department rushed to restore water to the island because the water supply was expected to run out Friday morning.
