BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - This year’s United We Give blood drive, made possible by LifeShare Blood Center and Waitr, saw nearly 1,500 donors; that’s up 62% from 2019′s event, organizers say.
The three-day event, which ended July 4, was held in multiple cities across the Baton Rouge area. Organizers say donations were desperately needed because LifeShare’s blood supply was depleted by about 80% in May.
“We want to thank everyone who came out and donated. When it comes to blood, every unit counts because every unit is another life saved or sustained,” said Benjamin Prijatel, senior director of blood operations for LifeShare. “In fact, most of the donations collected during United We Give have already been distributed to local hospitals, and many have been transfused.”
Those who donated received a coupon for free delivery from Waitr (good until July 31), a face mask, and a coupon for a Box Combo at Raising Cane’s.
