PEARL RIVER, La. (WVUE) - A man missing since Sunday afternoon in the West Pearl River has been found alive.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard were looking for an overdue boater since he was reported overdue on Sunday (May 3).

Shawn “Michael” Copling, 22, launched around noon at Pump Slough in a steering wheel side console 14-foot aluminum flat boat with orange stickers.

Copling was located shortly after noon on Monday with his boat in a swamp off the West Pearl River. He was lost and disoriented and was taken by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital.

“I thank everyone involved who searched for many hours until this man was located and brought to safety,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “This is a reminder that before heading out in a boat to always tell someone where you are going and when to expect you back.”

A family member reported him missing Sunday night when he had not returned home.
