Strangers help mother and infant escape fire

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Firefighters responded to a house fire just off of Sherwood Forest Boulevard.

The first call about the fire was made around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 1, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department. It happened in the 11900 block of Lake Sherwood Avenue, near the intersection of Sherwood Forest Boulevard and Coursey Boulevard.

Officials said a mother and infant safely escaped before crews made it to the home. They added two other people at the home also weren’t injured. They also said firefighters rescued a family dog.

Two people driving near the scene at the time of the fire told WAFB they stopped to alert the family inside the home when they saw the flames.

BRFD said the flames spread to the attic before being brought under control.
