BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The man suspected of shooting and killing a former Baton Rouge police officer has been arrested after being released from the hospital.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Craig Willis, 29, was arrested and booked on Friday, May 1 in connection with the shooting death of Ryan Hord, 41.
Officials reported Willis has been charged with second-degree murder, simple burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, and resisting an officer.
Sgt. L’Jean McKneely Jr. with BRPD said Hord was killed in a shooting about a block away from his home on Richland Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, April 26.
Investigators said Hord confronted a vehicle burglary suspect and they exchanged gunfire. Hord was hit and died at the scene, according to police.
Police said the suspect, now identified as Willis, was also hit and left the scene. They added he was later captured by a BRPD K9 officer and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Hord was a former BRPD officer who left the force to work in the private sector.
