NEW ORLEANS (WAFB) - Southern showed that Friday’s prowess swinging the bat wasn’t a fluke as the Jags had another impressive day at the plate against Alcorn State on Saturday, Feb. 15 in the Andre Dawson Classic.
The Jags (2-0) used a big fourth inning to run away with the 8-3 win over the Braves (1-1).
In the top of the fourth, Southern was up 2-1 with the bases loaded. Brendon Davis hit one deep into right field that barely stayed inside the line. The rip sent all three runners home safely and earned Davis a three-run triple to make it 5-1.
With their next at-bat, the Jags added some insurance. Garrett Felix chopped it up the middle to score Davis to make it 6-1. They finished the afternoon with a total of 11 hits.
Wilhelm Allen got his first start as a senior. The right-hander threw six innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four.
Southern then added two more runs in the ninth.
