PLAQUEMINE, La. (WAFB) - One person was shot near a church in Plaquemine Wednesday night.
Emergency officials say the incident happened just after 7 p.m. in the 58800 block of Captain TT Harris Street near Greater St. Mary Baptist Church. One person was shot in the shoulder. Their condition is currently unknown.
Chief Kenny Payne with the Plaquemine Police Department says there is possibly a second victim as well, but that’s not confirmed at this time. He says from the information gathered from witnesses, it’s believed about eight to ten shots were fired from a moving car towards a house. Inside the house were three adults and several children. It’s not believe the people in the home had anything to do with the shooting.
Chief Payne says the victim is 30 and is from Central, but has a relative in Plaquemine he visits often. It’s believed there was some sort of altercation with others who chased the victim to the area where he was shot.
At this time, there’s no description of the vehicle or any possible suspects. Chief Payne also says the victim is not being cooperative with law enforcement. Police believe the victim most likely knew who shot him, and may have in fact returned fire himself.
