Arrest made in shooting death of Donald Joseph on Curtis Street

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Police have arrested a man accused of shooting and killing Donald Joseph.

A spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Police Department said Joseph, 38, was killed in a shooting in the 1500 block of Curtis Street Saturday, Nov. 9.

Crews were called to respond to the scene just after 4 p.m. Saturday. The BRPD spokesperson said Joseph was found deceased with gunshot wounds.

On Tuesday, Nov. 26, BRPD arrested the suspected gunman, James Whitfield, 39. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of second-degree murder.

A recent spike in gun violence has BRPD against a wall. Chief Murphy Paul says 60 detectives will be reassigned to the street crimes and narcotics units. Another 26 new officers will be released from the field training program and will be permanently assigned to uniform patrol.
