BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Police have upgraded the charges for a man connected to a deadly Aug. 24 shooting.
Police had arrested Johnnie Ulises Santiago, 42, after Guillwane Kaufman, 36, was shot and killed in on Victoria Drive Saturday.
Emergency officials responded to reports about the shooting in the 3500 block of Victoria Drive just after 9 p.m. Saturday. Kaufman was transported from the scene and had life-threatening injuries at the time.
As a result Santiago was charge with attempted second degree murder and illegal carrying and discharge of a weapon. He was originally arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for the attempted murder charge.
However, on Aug. 30, Kaufman was pronounced dead at the hospital, which upgraded Santiago’s charges to second degree murder.
