Tornado tears roof off Bear Creek Western Store in Montpelier

MONTPELIER, La. (WAFB) - An EF-0 tornado tore off the roof of a Montpelier business Sunday morning after a strong storms moved through southwest Louisiana.

At around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, the storm took off most of the roof of the Bear Creek Western Store, according to the store’s Facebook post. The National Weather Service later confirmed Sunday afternoon the tornado caused damage in Montpelier. After conducting a storm survey, NWS determined the tornado stayed on the ground for 0.1 miles, had maximum winds of 80 mph and was 30 yards wide.

The part of the roof that was torn off had been installed in the 1990′s, but the older part of the roof was still intact. That part of the roof was able to keep most of the water from damaging the store.

The store, however is in need of major repair, and will remain closed until they’re fixed.
