Woman shot, killed after two-hour standoff with police

NEW BOSTON, Texas (KSLA) - An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting ended with one woman dead.

According to Captain Chris Taillon with the New Boston Police Department, officers shot and killed Elizabeth Harris, 58, of New Boston, after she reportedly fired multiple shots at officers late Thursday night into Friday morning.

Taillon spoke with KSLA News 12 overnight. He said his officers responded to a home in the 200 block of North Center Street in New Boston for reports of a possible suicidal person. When officers arrived, a woman fired “five to six shots". Officers took cover and called a negotiator with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office.

After approximately two hours, Taillon said the woman stepped out of the home and opened fire on officers again. Officers shot back at the woman, who died shortly after.

No officers were hurt.
