NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) - Despite saying that he does not intend to run for governor of Louisiana, President Donald Trump urged Rep. Steve Scalise to challenge for the seat, according to a report.
During the president’s flight to Louisiana this week, Trump showed polling numbers that showed the president’s strength in the state, the Axios report attributes to sources.
Trump also told the congressman that he would win easily over incumbent Gov. John Bel Edwards if he ran. Trump said another Republican would win Scalise’s seat, according to the report.
Trump said he would help Scalise win. Scalise seemed flattered, the report said, but he declined to run.
The election is in October.
