BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Kids in one Baton Rouge neighborhood have new basketball goals and a new reason to smile.
The Baton Rouge Police Department donated the goals to the Choctaw Lodge Apartments on Prescott Road. The manager of the complex says police were passing by one day and saw the need for basketball goals. The kids learned about the plans in early May and have been asking about them ever since.
“It’s huge. I’ve got older kids, you know. They don’t really have much to do. The swing sets are too small for them, the slides are no fun, so this gives them something to run around and do,” said Shawnah Ritter, the property manager at Choctaw Lodge.
The manager says she thanks BRPD for the donations, saying she and her maintenance team were prepared to pay out of pocket to pay for new basketball goals.
