BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Students from Westdale Heights Academic Magnet got a hands-on lesson in golf Thursday with a First Tee clinic at BREC's Webb Memorial Golf Course facility.

It’s part of a new initiative of the East Baton Rouge Parish program to expose boys and girls to the game of golf, by working with schools that offer the experience.

The program attempts to reach kids and teens from all walks of life, not only teaching the fundamentals of the sport, but life skills and values that can last a lifetime. The students were taught grip, club placement, and ball-striking plus putting and chipping in a two-hour session.

The First Tee program tries to instill the following nine core values with the game of golf:

1. Honesty

2. Integrity

3. Sportsmanship

4. Respect

5. Confidence

6. Responsibility

7. Perseverance

8. Courtesy

9. Judgement
